Why aren’t more people freaking out about the new Venezuelan labor law?

dancepunksnotdead:

You know, the one that gives housewives/full-time mothers a pension— wages for housework?

It’s ONLY A HUGE VICTORY FOR FEMINISM, SOCIALISM, AND WOMEN OF COLOR. Not a big deal or anything. Tumblr is mysteriously silent about this.

40% of Republicans think Benghazi is the biggest scandal in US History: not Marines gunning down Vietnamese villagers, not the discovery of mass graves in Iraq, not the annexation of Hawaii, not the annexation of Native lands, not the internment of Japanese-Americans, not any of the lynchings of Black folks, Jews, Italians, Mexicans, and Chinese Americans, not the Colorado Coalfield War, not the Red Scare, not the Banana Wars, not slavery: not a million scandals that seem to define the United States.

Black Libyans

roqayya:

Yes Black Libyans were ethnically cleansed from Libya, yes they were abused and tortured. Evidence? Here we go:

“When Al-Bayda, Benghazi, Derna, Misratah and other cities first fell under the control of the NTC in February, anti-Gaddafi forces carried out house raids, killings and other violent attacks against suspected mercenaries, either sub-Saharan Africans or black Libyans.”

“People are afraid of the dark-skinned people, so they are all suspect,” from NYTimes ‘Libyans Turn Wrath on Dark-Skinned Migrants’:

And what of Libyan rebels treating Black Libyans like animals, caging them, and force-feeding them the Libyan flag? http://rt.com/news/libya-rebels-torture-africans-679/

And the 50 charred bodies found in Al-Bayda of sub-Saharan Africans, who were burned alive?

Also for those interested I’d recommend you reading a book on the subject of Libya (post-Gaddafi) as well - Maximillian Forte’s book “Crouching Towards Sirte”

Sidenote: I know this contention is coming so I had might as well address it - that Black Libyans or Africans are still found in Libya does not negate the premise, corroborated by independent reports and first hand accounts, that ethnic cleansing transpired. If that we’re the case are we to say that Palestinians were never ethnically cleansed from Palestine because there are Palestinians still in “Israel” (occupied Palestine)? Read the reports mentioned and Forte’s book and make up your own mind.

  • Robert Burstow: Let’s begin with your politics. In the late 30s would you have considered yourself a Trotskyist?
  • Clement Greenberg: A half-assed Trotskyist, at the very end of the 30s.
  • RB: Was ‘Avant-garde and Kitsch’ written within that kind of framework?
  • CB: Alas, yes.
